Crown King

Up in the Bradshaw mountains, there's a small town called Crown King that's primarily made up of a restaurant, two bars and a general store.  Because this area is a very short trip from north Phoenix, it makes for a ride to escape the heat of the valley.  There are two ways to reach Crown King: the first being a graded dirt road that starts near Bumblebee (just off of I17).  However, this road is usually dusty, busy and full of washboards.  The alternative route (a.k.a. the "back way") begins at the northwest side of Lake Pleasant.  This jeep trail is a lot of fun, but can get pretty rough in certain areas.  Either route you choose, you're guaranteed to come across a slew of Jeeps, ATVs and other vehicles.

One you reach the town of Crown King, there are plenty of camping areas and some great trails to explore.  You can even find an old mine or two.  Because the area is teeming with history, you can't help but feel like you've been thrown back in time.  And after a day of riding, you can always stop by one of the local bars for a nice cold beer.

Shown below are a few images from various rides to the Crown King area.
