Schnebly Hill and Sedona Jim, Steve and I decided to kill a Sunday by checking out the back side of Sedona via Schnebly Hill (just south of Flagstaff, off of I-17). Schnebly (I'm already getting sick of writing that) road turns to dirt as soon as you get off the interstate, but it's a relatively easy pass. I wouldn't take my Supra on this road, but larger bikes like the GS would do fine. The views from the hilltop are amazing -- red rock and beautiful mesas fill the horizon (check out the panoramic shot below). So while the road isn't very challenging, it does offer cooler temps and some of the best views around. As we made it closer to Sedona, traffic really started to pick up. But it was actually kinda of fun to blow by the tourists in their open air pink Jeep tours. (A little dust will do them good.) We dropped down into town and spent a couple of hours trying to channel positive energy through our beings while sitting in a vortex. Actually, that last part isn't true. But we did see a lot of new age bookstores while riding through town. My soul feels cleansed already. After exploring a couple of dirt roads around Sedona, we found a great road that took us down near Jerome. The trail offered some great views, a few patches of pine trees and some high speed sections that really made it a blast. After stopping in Jerome for lunch, we rode up Mingus mountain and found a dirt road down to Cherry road and I-17. Along the way, Steve had to turn his bike sideways to avoid hitting a rather imposing bull. (I'm pretty sure the bull would have won.) All in all, a great day up in the cooler elevations. Shown below are a few images from the ride.
